For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to write. Not just wanted — felt called to. Back in middle school, before girls, music, movies, and all the other shiny distractions took over, I wrote constantly. I don’t have any of those old notebooks anymore (which is probably a blessing), but part of me wishes I did. They might’ve been terrible, but they also might’ve held the seeds of the stories I’m finally ready to tell. Guess we’ll never know.

So why start this blog now?

Short answer:
I need to build the habit of writing daily, and I might actually have some things worth saying.

I’ve lived a lot of life. Some of it smart, some of it… less than smart. And it feels like the right time to share what I’ve learned — the wisdom that tends to pour out after acting on a bad idea or two. Hence the name: Dumb Ideas, Good Stories.

What This Blog Will Be

This will mostly be the ramblings of an old man with a wandering mind and a tendency to take the long way around — literally and figuratively.

You can expect:

  • Lighthearted stories, musings, and adventures
  • Travel tales with my wife, Kim (you’ll meet her soon enough)
  • Jeep and SxS antics
  • Thoughts from the headset as a 911 telecommunicator
(names changed to protect the innocent… and the guilty)
  • Whatever else rattles loose in my head on any given day

I want this to be a fun, friendly corner of the internet — no drama, no yelling, no doom-scrolling headaches. I’m a Christian, I try to be a decent human being, and I expect the same from anyone who stops by. Keep it simple: treat others the way you want to be treated.

What This Blog Won’t Be

This won’t be a place to complain about the world or try to fix the nation’s problems. That’s above my pay grade, and honestly, I don’t have the energy for political cage-matches anymore.

It also won’t be filled with technical jargon. If you’re looking for detailed specs, torque charts, or engineering diagrams — Google’s your guy. I’m here for the stories.

I follow the KISS rule: Keep It Simple, Stupid.
(Stupid being me — not you.)

The Road Ahead

Right now, Dumb Ideas, Good Stories is just a seed — but I’m excited to see what it grows into.

If you’re still reading, you’ve already earned a hearty thank-you and a friendly slap on the back. I truly appreciate your time and attention.

Now let’s take a ride together and see where the unpaved mind leads us.
